Growing up in a household where Super 8 was like another member of the family, Luke Stambouliah’s fascination with photography and cinema was nurtured. Intrigued by his father’s profession as a psychologist and his sister’s craft as an actor, he wanted to fuse the study of the mind with the power of expression.

Stambouliah graduated with Honours in Photomedia from the University of New South Wales, College of Fine Arts.

His first solo exhibition, Persons of Interest, was selected by Head On Photo Festival and exhibited at Sydney Town Hall. This led to his inclusion in the Museums of History NSW exhibition, Underworld: Mugshots from the Roaring Twenties, which premiered at the Museum of Sydney.

His later series, Betwixt (The Black Show), became the first photographic exhibition to be held at the Roslyn Packer Theatre and presented by Sydney Theatre Company.

His recent series, Legacy: A Story of Women, was commissioned by Semann & Slattery and launched as part of a national conference in education at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Stambouliah’s exhibited works are imbued with a sense of cinematic storytelling suspended in the calm of a single image. Beyond the gallery walls, he continued his path into film and television, shooting editorial portraits and publicity stills for Australia’s leading actors, artists and productions.
